Simply Sketches #2

Here I am with the second round of Simply Sketches!

For my sample I wanted this thick and thin stripes, I don’t know if there’s an official word for it. They’re so popular these days, I saw them on some outdoor cushions on the pottery barn website and several other places. To me they looked perfect for a masculine card!

I cut 4 stripes from Lemon Tart with width – 1”, 3/4”, 1/2” and 1/4”. Then glued them to the Enchanted Evening base. The good thing about this pattern is that you can place them randomly – no measurements required. I cut a frame from white CS using Cricut and SCAL. Printed the sentiment on it using computer and adhered it using foam dots. The printing didn’t come out really perfect.

Tuesday Trigger

I absolutely loved this week’s tuesday trigger and couldn’t wait to make my card.

A few days back I tried to make a card with yellow and orange as the color combo but somehow it didn’t go where I wanted it to. I left it half way through. So I was adamant about completing today’s card. It took me around 2 hours to make this card – 1 hour and 50 minutes to design the card and 10 minutes to make it!! I’d a really hard figuring out how to create a big doily using the small ones. After several failed configurations before I found this one that fit the bill! I wish a better red ink . The sketch is based on Simply Sketches #1.

I stamped a small doily in orange – this would be the center of my doily. Then stamped the other orange doilies around it. My first attempt – which was directly on the card base was ruined – so I cut out a circle and glued it on top of the ruined stamping Stamped a bigger doily in red on white CS and die cut it using circle nestabilities. Adhered it to the center of the bigger doily using foam dots. Glued rhinestones to the center of all doilies. Stamped the sentiment in orange and the accent in black.

Another one for Tuesday Trigger

I made another card for this week’s tuesday trigger. I simply love the combination of colors in the trigger and couldn’t stop myself. Though I like my previous card more than this. There’s something missing in this card and I can’t seem to point that out. If you can do let me know. I keep thinking that maybe embossing the clock in black instead of white would’ve looked better; but I wanted to give the card a soft look and white seemed to be right for it.

I embossed the card base using Divine Swirls embossing folder. Then added a strip of Berry Sorbet CS. Stamped the image on Lemon Tart CS using Versamark. Embossed it with white embossing powder. Stamped the sentiment using Brilliance – I love that ink!! It’s so dark and rich! And the pad is so juicy!

Tuesday Trigger–Crepe bouquet

This week’s tuesday trigger inspired me to use the colors as well as flowers.

This card is also inspired by Lisa’s card – it is so cheerful!! And that’s what I wanted – a bright cheerful card to brighten up someone’s day.

The flowers and the grass were cut using Cricut and SCAL. The flower image comes with SCAL, while the grass I found online. I cut a stencil for the cloud – again an image that comes with SCAL. Using this stencil I sponged the cloud in Sky Blue ink. I dotted the stems with a black pen. For the leaves, I hand drew an outline and cut out the stencil. Then sponged the leaves in Fresh Green and added a touch of Green ink. The sentiment is printed using computer. I printed it out on copier paper first and then taped the grass border to the copier paper and printed again. Someday I’ll buy the Grafix rub-on transfer paper and then I don’t have to print twice! Till then this seems to be working out well! I attached buttons to the flower centers. Can you believe it this card does not use any stamp?!?!?

WMS #42

I love WMS sketch challenges!! Somehow their sketches always manage to motivate me! Here’s the sketch for this week’s challenge.

This time I must say I’ve my own interpretation of the sketch. I always look at the sketch when the challenge is posted and then make the card based on what I remember of the sketch or how it inspired me.

I’d to make a wedding card for a relative and Indian weddings are all about bright colors and glitter (in the form of rhinestones, sequins or the more expensive diamond and gold). So that was my second inspiration for this card.

I stamped the round frames from Inkadinkado stamps in Bamboo and Dark green inks. Then I (masked and) stamped the flower from Jolies Fleurs. Colored the flowers using prismacolor pencils and OMS. It was after a long long time that I was coloring a card . Glued a rhinestone on the centers of the flowers. Cut the label using Cricut and SCAL. Stamped the sentiment from Flourished Words in Tuxedo black. Outlined the frames with Diamond stickles. Here’s a better view of the bling:

Tuesday Trigger–Farm Fresh

When I looked at this week’s trigger I wanted to make a white card with outlined images in orange and blue (no surprises there!). So I thought very hard about which images to pick but somehow the stamps I had didn’t seem right for what I wanted to do. After much thought I decided to take a risk and picked the small clock from the Hero Arts Cuckoo set. I then stamped a border of orange and blue clocks; but I wasn’t too happy with the result. Instead I took a strip of Spring Rain CS and stamped a border of clocks in black. Now I wanted to pop one of the clocks not just with dimensionals but also with color. This clock which seems to have it’s alarm on supports the “it’s time to” part of the sentiment. Earlier I wanted to put the sentiment inside to create more emphasis on the alarming clock but the outside looked too bare without it.

All the images and sentiment are from Hero Arts Cuckoo stamp set. I love that the set has enough matching sentiments. To stamp the clocks in a straight line, I used a sheet of paper and for every clock I made sure that one of the two knobs on the top of the clock aligned with that paper. The focal image is covered in glossy accents. Yes it looks like I’m on a roll with glossy accents The lines around the focal image are hand drawn.

WMS #31 and Valentine day craft carnival

This card is based on the WMS #31 and will be going to the Craft Critique Valentine day carnival

I really liked the sketch because it was so simple to remember. I could think about it anytime I wanted – I didn’t have to refer the sketch again and again. It was fun playing with it and here’s the card I designed

Cut the butterflies at 3/4 of an inch. The inner heart at 2 inch and the scalloped heart at 2.5 inch. The sentiment is computer generated on crème CS. All the cuts are done using cricut. The scalloped heart is embellished with liquid pearls and the butterflies with adhesive backed pearls.

I love this color combo! And let me tell you that I’d to throw a couple of hearts (paper ones! ) before I got that sentiment right in the middle of the heart! The hearts are from SVG files provided by Penny Duncan Creations and the butterflies are my own SVG files. Once I upload the SVG files online, I’ll share them for the benefit of all.

Tuesday Trigger–Bright Spot

I’m just wowed with every Tuesday Trigger and eagerly wait for Cath’s post every Tuesday. Here’s this week’s Tuesday Trigger

I spent one whole night thinking about this trigger – that’s probably the longest I’ve thought of any card! My find was flooded with banners, flowers, etc. but I finally decided on this

The garland in the picture inspired me to use circles. How I love that card!! It literally took me less than 10 minutes to make this card! Maybe I could submit it to Take Ten

I cut the circles at 1.25 inch in cricut. Stamped the clock from Hero Arts Cuckoo stamp set. Attached the circles to the card using foam dots. Stamped the sentiment.

Gray is the new black challenge

I haven’t used the gray color for a long long time! I love gray; especially gray, pink and lime green – that’s a fab combo! So when I saw the Moxie Fab Gray is the new black challenge I was onboard with it; especially this picture…

Even though the picture was just for inspiration I wanted to re-create it in my card. So I learnt how to make paper flowers. Yes I hadn’t ever made them because they make the cards hard-to-mail and most of my cards are sent by mail; but I was so mesmerized with this photo that I decided to make an exception here.

The ferns were cut using my cricut. The flowers were made from a 2” circle. The sentiment is embossed with white embossing powder.

Tuesday Trigger–Winter white

Even though this Tuesday trigger is named Winter white, the first color that came to my mind when I looked at it was crème like vanilla crème

and flowers and pearls…

With that on my mind I made this card

I embossed flowers with white embossing powder. The cut out the central flower in two different layers. Attached adhesive pearls to the center of the flowers. Traced the swirls with liquid pearls. Scored a frame and attached a ribbon.

I didn’t have a clear picture in my mind when I started on this card. All I knew was I wanted a card oozing with crème, flowers and pearls; and I think this card fulfills that vision of mine.

Tuesday Trigger – Strictly stripes

The Tuesday Trigger for this week is this pair of mittens

and the stripes inspired me to make this card

I’m loving the CAS style cards! I like that they don’t prompt you to buy loads of supplies and a small number of elements need to make a bigger statement which exercises my mind to the fullest! The sentiment is embossed in white embossing powder.

Monochromatic is fun!

I made this card with the sketch in 2S4Y challenge and using the monochromatic color scheme for the cardvaarks challenge. The background is stamped using the PTI Guidelines Two set and the sentiment is from Flourishes’ Flourished words. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark on the ribbon and then embossed it with white EP. I also added liquid pearls at the center of the medallions.

 

I wanted to but didn’t add too many embellies because I wanted it to be masculine-friendly card :)

Three-in-one

Yes, this card is for three challenges!! Here are the three of them:

• Caardvarks: The challenge was to make a baby card and I hadn’t made one since a long time so I thought to myself “why not?!?”!
• OCC Challenge – Bows: Yes at OCC we’d to use bows – knowing how fond I’m of embellies, I jumped at it!
• 2S4Y – That’s where I got this sketch! The sketch was very different from what I’d been making so I was tempted to try it out and see what I make out of it!

All together everything worked out very well and I’m soooo happy with this card! I sponged around the sentiment with pigment ink.

CPS 161

This was actually for CPS 161 but I forgot to post it on time :(. The color scheme is based on SCS CC 237. The color combo was a change from my usual ones, I love to use black. It adds a certain definition to the card. I’ve had this image from a swap for a long time and thought it was finally time to show it the light of the day :).

Sketch Saturday challenge #94

The moment I saw the sketch on Sketch Saturday, I knew I wanted to make a card using this sketch and I also knew which stamp I was going to use :).

The napkins on the mice are paper pieced and so is the cupcake wrapper. The cupcake is popped up on dimensionals. The center embellishment was created by cutting a circle from felt and stitching a button on top of it. I recently bought lot of felt in various colors and was waiting to use it :).

Technique challenge – Punch Art

This is the first time I tried punch art and I was doing a happy dance after that – I was so happy with my results! :D The icing on the cake was that I came up with my own punch art!! I didn’t copy it! I did get inspired by one of the PTI stamp sets – the one that has a lady bug. Oh and the technique challenge link is TLC 261.

Isn’t the ladybug cute?!?!

SC 213

I picked this sketch from the sketch challenge at SCS – SC 213. It was so much fun to work with and somehow everything just fell into place! :) I’m glad I used an image from a swap that I received long back.

CPS 155

This sketch was so easy to work with – loved doing it. You can see the challenge at CPS 155.

I put some liquid pearls on the ribbon as it was looking too vacant without it.

A wedding card and a sketch

That’s two challenges in one: caardvarks challenge is to creat a wedding card and the sketch is from CPS.

One of my inspirations to buy the oval nestabilities was to create Becca Feeken’s style of cards – with the oval being the focal point and having some text; but ever since I bought them I didn’t get the chance to do that. So when I saw the caardvarks challenge I thought to myself – Now that would be a perfect opportunity to create such a card. Deciding on the colors was a breeze, surprisingly! Then the PP fell into place and I realized that for once I’ve some stamps that match the PP so I HAD to use them – I clear embossed with them; and hence the CS was embossed :). I really like the card that resulted!

PTI Emboss resist challenge

I was working on this emboss resist background when I read on Nichole’s blog the new challenge that they’re introducing the technique for today was guess what – emboss resist! So I decided to finish my card and enter it into the challenge which has a deadline of tomorrow morning!! I’m glad I could finish it before that! Here’s the PTI Emboss resist challenge.

I wanted to keep the card simple and highlight the background. The background was made by first stamping the paisleys using Versamark, then embossing with clear EP and finally sponging using green and blue inks.
