Introducing Simply Sketches – Simply Sketches #1

I loved the sketches from WMS sketch challenges – they were so simple. Hence so conducive for CAS as well as non-CAS cards. However recently they changed their policy such that a challenge entry must have at least one WMS image. Unfortunately for me I don’t own any WMS stamps . I do love them but I haven’t gotten down to that part of my wish list yet. Thus I could no longer participate in them. Since there seemed to be no other sketch challenge which had simple sketches I decided to create my own sketches.

I thought that there might be others who were in the same boat as I am and could benefit from these sketches. So I would post every sketch I create along with my sample. The sketch would be posted every Monday. Let’s hope I can follow that schedule If you were inspired by my sketch and created a card I would love to see it. So please do leave me a comment with a link to your card. Your card doesn’t have to be CAS. You can use the same sketch in various ways:

1. Rotate the sketch.
2. Take it’s mirror image.
3. Stretch or shrink it’s elements. Try not to do that to an extent that the basic layout of the sketch is lost.
4. Any other way you can think of.

Here’s the first sketch and my sample:

I made a set of thank you cards using this sketch. This is also my entry to Hero Arts Fabulous Flowers contest.

I stamped the flower in versamark on vellum. Then embossed it in white embossing powder. Added some Diamond stickles to the petals and dotted the center with liquid pearls. The background was created by taking together some thank you sentiments and stamping them repeatedly using Versamark.

WMS sketch challenge #41

The WMS sketch challenge came up at just the right time! It had been on my mind to make some thank you note cards but I couldn’t figure out how exactly I wanted to make them. There were so many different ideas hovering in my mind. The challenge helped me narrow down and I was very happy with the turn out

The card base was created using an SVG file. You can download the file here. I cut it at a width of 4”. The cut card base is 4” X 7” and the final card is 4” X 3.5”. It was not easy to cut the card base in Cricut due to intricate design so I would suggest you try it once or twice before the final run. I stamped the butterfly on the card base as well as colored CS. I used a cardstock 3 X 3 to mask the image and then sponged the edges with ink. Cut out the butterfly on the colored CS and popped it up using foam dots. Stamped the sentiment. Accented the edges with liquid pearls.

Baby Girl

Our friends recently had a baby girl and I made this card for  them. I absolutely adore the card!! It’s just what I wanted it to be – soft like a baby!

The circle card is cut using the largest nestabilities circle die. I’d to go over 3-4 times in the cutting machine before the die cut through the two layers of PTI CS. I think next time I’m going to try using my cricut. The outer doily was cut using Sweet Blush CS and inner one using Lavender Moon. The stamp is from Inkadinkado. I added liquid pearls to the doilies and stickles to the diaper and the bow.

• Others: Cricut, Liquid Pearls, Diamond stickles, Ribbon from Michaels.

Create Your Own Friday #13 – First timer!

Is there an occasion for which you’ve never made a card? Then now is the time to try it out :). I’ve never made a “Hi” or a general “hello” card in the 2.5 years that I’ve been making cards and whenever I saw people making them I would always wonder what they would do with it. Now, I needed some hi cards so I got busy making them. Luckily I’d a sentiment stamp just right for it! I made three of them with the same stamp but with a little variation in the layout.

 

 

I think they all turned our very pretty!

Supplies: Inkadinkado round borders, white EP, clear EP, versacolor green ink, versamark, buttons, grosgrain ribbon, white gel pen, liquid pearls.

Crop your image

That was the challenge in LSC 228 (Limited Supplies Challenge) at SCS. I used my Inkadinkado Patterned birds and bugs set for this and I wanted to decorate the inside as well as the envelope but I’m not sure I was very creative at doing that. Next time!

Rules of the challenge:

1. Crop an image
2. Repeat the cropped image on your card at least 3 times (Oops, I’d forgotten this one but looks like I still made it!)
3. As for embellishments, let's go basic: brads and eyelets only!

  It was easy to decide on the colors of this card because there are only so many colored inks that I have :). The circles are popped on dimensionals, I don’t think that got captured in the photo. The dragonfly images are embossed with clear EP.

SC262 and CC253

One card and two challenges! This card uses the color combo of Color Combination 253 and the sketch from Sketch Challenge 262 at SCS.

This image is from Inkadinkado set. I like the way I popped up a part of the wing and there’s some glitter on it. The background was created using the PTI Guide Lines two.

Supplies: DCWV and Bazzill CS, Prismacolor pencils, OMS, Stardust stickles, Prima flowers, dew drop, sheer ribbon, scallop scissors, Inkadinkado stamp, PTI guide lines two stamp set, white gel pen.
