Dancing dolphins

When I saw this card (video) on the Lawn Fawn youtube channel, I wanted to do something similar. Flipping through my stamp sets I found the Critters in the sea and thought to myself how beautiful would it be to have dancing dolphins in the moonlight! I searched the internet for some images as my inspiration. I wasn’t sure how well I would be able to execute my idea but definitely wanted to give it a try; and let’s just say I’m so pleased with my work

I used the idea from the video to use a contact paper as the mask. So I cut out a circle using my nestabilities. Adhered it to watercolor cardstock. Also ut out a rectangle and masked the water. Then went to town with Broken China, Faded jeans and Chipped Sapphire distress inks. Sponged them to create the night sky. After the sky, removed the mask for water and now masked the sky. Using distress inks to watercolor created the water. The inks used were chipped sapphire and dusty concord. Some of the color seeped through the mask (yes the video mentions that the contact paper is not a good enough mask for water coloring). So I created some tree silhouettes to cover that up. Once the water was done, removed the mask for the moon. Using weathered wood watercolored here and there for the moon. The dolphins were stamped on watercolor paper and watercolored using weathered wood. Created the splashes and the stars using a white gel pen. Must say that the gel pen doesn’t do a very good job on a watercolor paper. Or maybe mine is just too old.

You’re so sweet!

I wanted to give a watercolor effect in this card. So I rubbed distress ink pads on my craft sheet and then I got the ink on my stamp from the craft sheet(instead of using the ink pad) , slightly misted it and stamped it onto watercolor paper. Then using my watercolor brush I picked up some ink and doodled a boundary.

The sentiment was created using Milo’s ABC. That stamp set has come in very handy – I can create my own sentiments when I want to. I’m now tempted to get the Claire’s ABC set which has lower case letters too!

Watercoloring using stencil

I created a stencil using my Zing and cardstock. Put the stencil on a watercolor paper and taped it (so it doesn’t move). Then colored inside the stencil using distress inks. Stamped some birthday stamps using second generation stamping in Weathered wood. Doodled a frame using black pen.

I love this card! It came out just perfect and it’s a single layer card! You know what – I created the word “togetherness” using “together” and “happiness” from the stamp set!

Happy anniversary with sunburst background

I’m so  proud of my sunburst background! I created it using a painter’s tape, distress ink and foam tool. I used a circle as a mask and then sponged the background all over. To create the rays, I took a strip of painter’s tape and kept moving it like a compass till the circle was complete. The sentiment was made using Milo’s ABC and stamped on vellum. The image was colored using distress inks and water brush.

You are my best catch

Sponged the card base (watercolor paper) in peeled paint. Stamped the Text BG. Diecut an oval in card front. Stamped the penny black image. Colored using distress inks and water brush. Created the sentiment using Milo’s ABC and hand drew the dialog box then fuzzy cut it.

Always and forever

Sponged the card base (watercolor paper) with Distress Ink dusty concord. Then stamped the Wallpaper BG stamp. Die cut a circle in the card front. Stamped the penny black image. Colored with distress inks and water brush. Stamped the sentiment in versamark and embossed with white embossing powder. Created two lines with glossy accents and sprinkled some glitter on them. Fuzzy cut hearts, colored them red and covered with glossy accents. Then popped them with foam dots.

Watercoloring - IV

I loved the the muted combination on this card! I realized how good a purchase this Hero Arts set is! So versatile!

I like how the distress inks give a natural variegated look to the petals. I masked and then stamped and colored the flowers. Then drew the lines using a black pen.

Watercoloring

We’d gone on a vacation when we came across an Art store. We went inside and when I came out, I was the happy owner of a watercoloring paper pad. I’m no guru of watercoloring so I just got what seemed good to me – 140 lb cold pressed strathmore watercolor paper. I really like the thickness of the paper. Being a Papertrey Ink cardstock user, it’s hard to be pleased with flimsy papers. When I came home, I ventured with watercoloring using distress inks and I can not tell you how much fun that was!! So much so that I couldn’t stop myself!!

Here’s my first example:

I used a niji waterbrush and various distress inks. Just dab the pad on an acrylic block and pick the color from it.
